My mom always told me, you never have a second chance to make a first impression. And often times, it will be the only impression you have to make on someone.
It was great advice, because it is so true. Every day, we have the opportunity to wake up, put a smile on our face, and share that smile with the world.
You will run into someone today on the street, at a store, or while out to dinner that you will probably never see again. They will go on with their lives, and you will go on with yours and whether or not you share a smile with them will probably make no difference to them – or you. But what if that one person was having a bad day, week, or even year? Could your smile really make an impact on their life? The answer is yes. The answer will always be yes.
Don’t worry if smiling doesn’t come naturally to you. You know who you are … a generally happy person that really just likes keeping emotions to yourself. Or maybe you feel uncomfortable with smiling at a random person because you don’t want to be stuck in an awkward situation. I get it, we’ve all been there. But trust me, it’s worth it. Because that one time you look up at someone and smile, and they smile back, and you can tell you’ve touched a life for the better – bam, those awkward moments slip away from your memory, and you’ve done your good deed for the day! Just like that.
So today, I challenge you to share a smile with someone. You’ll be surprised how much it changes your day for the better.
